Color themes in Adobe Illustrator

Today we will talk about color themes and how to create, save and use them in our illustration. This is an Adobe Illustrator tutorial for beginners and if you are struggling with choosing right colors for your artwork, you would not want to miss this tutorial.

So, what are color themes and how do you access it. Clicking on Window > Color themes brings up the Color theme panel. This is an awesome tool in the adobe world that you would need to UP your color game. This feature is available across many adobe applications, such as, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe After Effects. This tool lets you do the following awesome things when it comes to color:

• Add color to swatches
• Add color to library. This lets you access these themes across all your adobe tools! Even on fresco! P.S. here’s a fresco tutorial if you just starting out
• Create new themes. You can create your own themes and publish to adobe color
• Explore public themes
• Edit color themes

You can access public themes at adobe.color.com. You will need a creative cloud account to sync with your applications.

Let’s look at the Color Themes tool

Create: This is where you create your custom themes. The white triangle represents the base color and is useful when you use the color rule option. The icons below the theme lets you assign colors from the artboard or vice versa (eye dropper tool does not work in this case.

Explore: This is where you can find public color themes. Just click on the 3 dots and you can add it to swatches or edit it.

My themes: This is where you see all the themes saved in your library. You can easily access the themes from your library and edit them. You can them re-save them to your library under a different name.
